Looks more like your basic crevice spiney Sceloporus Poinsetti, I think.
I agree that it is S. magister. The magister has a black wedge mark on the shoulder. Sceloporus poinsetti has a black collar and a banded tail.

Nope, not clarkii. The only spiny whose range includes the San Juan river is S. magister. To me more precise it is S. m. cephaloflavus Orange-headed Spiny Lizard; if you accept the subspecies.
