Nolvasan Vs Roccal-D

AlteredMind99 Jul 21, 2005 07:48 PM

Im looking around for some new cleaners and i can get big bottles of either of those for real cheap from my clinic. I was just wondering if they are both safe for use in reptile cages? Obsviously i will be using the label recomended dilution and spraying lightly, allowing it to sit, and then wiping it througholy. Would any fumes or left over residue harm my animals? Do the treated surfaces need to be rinsed with water afterwards or anything?

And also, i posted before asking what people use for cleaners but didn't get a response. So I will ask again...what does every one use for cleaning solutions, and at what dilution?

Does anyone just use mild bleach dilutions? What about vinegar and water?

Thanks

I know that we use both in the vet's office where I volunteer, but I have heard great things about Nolvasan (leaves no toxic residue or fumes, kills viruses, bacteria, and protozoans, safe to use even around birds, etc.) and not as much about Roccal. You do not have to rinse after using Nolvasan, which is part of why I like it. There are no fumes whatsoever, it is even safe for use around birds which are VERY sensitive to toxic fumes.

I use Nolvasan diluted around 4-6 tablespoons per gallon (to be honest I forget *exactly* how much, but that is what it says on Melissa Kaplan's website www.anapsid.org and that is what I went by)

I use nolvasan as well. Actually I buy the generic Chlorehexidine cause it's cheaper. I dilute 2 tblsp per gallon as that's what the label recommends. I just spray it in the cages let stand a good five minutes then wipe up. In the past I've used bleach, but feel MUCH safer with the nolvasan. With the bleach I was rinsing everything over, and over, and over again.. Never felt safe with the fumes and residue.

I believe Roccal is a Quat cleaner and is therefore not safe to spray on or near a live animal. Chlorhexidine is safe and non toxic in proper doses. I go by Cheri's formula of 1:20 with water for cleaning and 1:30 for bathing.

Check the link and don't forget to use the pull downs on the bottom of the page.
