Arizona trip 5/5/05 - 5/10/05

rootsrok Jul 21, 2005 08:14 PM

here are the photos from my arizona trip this may. I visited the santa ritas, huachucas and the chiricahuas. This was the first day in arizona and I decided to go to the santa ritas. I arrived at about 6:30, set up camp, had a beer, took a quick hike, than off road cruising. I took a road recommended and found the first snake after road cruising for less than a half hour. My first atrox.

I found this longnosed snake immediatly after the atrox. It wasnt on the road but just off the shoulder. I saw the tail shine in the headlights and was able to stop in time in order to find a pretty good looking animal, got a bit defensive and made for the best pic I have been able to get of one of these guys.

After 3 days in the ritas, I went to the huachucas. I was only able to stay 1 day and found no snake. I found this lizard and it is what I beleive to be a mountain short horned lizard. If needed I can email better pics, but the orig was to big for ks so it was resized and now looks bad.

On my last day, I went to the chiricahuas which are the most beautful mountains I have ever seen. Here is a habitat shot as well as one of my favorite rock formations in the chiricahuas, the kissing rocks

As I said, I went to the chiricahuas on the last day. I found this little gem around the chiricahua mountains when I was field herping. It was my first molossus and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful example. She was a very fiesty snake so I couldn't shoot her for to long so these are the best of what I got before stressing her out. The first pic is me in the chiricahuas. Rootsrok
