Weight Gain

OC-Balls Jul 21, 2005 09:04 PM

Well, it's been 4 months since I received my baby girls.
They have put on between 115 to 371 grams. Does this seem high, low, or normal? I'm not power feeding - 1 sm rat per week. (the smallest one sometimes only eats every 2-weeks) Just wondering, they are by no means skinny or anything.
Thanks,
Ken

They'll each grow at their own speed. They all look healthy to me.

I would say they look healthy from the pic but to only gain 115g in 4 months time is pretty slow weight gain, how small are the rats you are feeding? Also it depends on how big they were when you got them and such, have you had to up their food size or were they capable of taking small rats when you got them? I have new babies that are eating rat fuzzies and in 2 weeks one went from 42g to 84g she has eaten 3 rat fuzzies and is now in shed, after shed she'll probably weigh only 70g or so. If she is only 200g in 4 months I would consider her a miserable eater.

Here's a few stats on some of mine. These are from when they were first aquired by me, they were hatchling under 200g at the time. As you can see it varries but if they are eating regularily and look healthy it is all good. My '04 babies range from 348g to 1190g right now. All depends on what and how they eat.

Rat eater but skips week 4 month weight gain was 248g
Rat eater eats when in shed 4 month weight gain was 314g
Mouse eater regular in 4 months gained 126g
Mouse eater who switched to rats 4 month gain 454g
