Hog Island caging question

buffysmom Jul 21, 2005 09:08 PM

My Hog Island male is outgrowing his cage & I'm wondering, if I put in some vertical shelves, will he use the increased space?

I have noticed with my hoggs the more space, climbing room, hides etc... They have the better off they are... For a while I kept my females in a freedom breeder style rack and they both rubbed there noses. Since I have moved them to much larger visions and they don't rub. I believe the hoggs like a little more cage room then some of the other boas... Just my thoughts hope this helps...

Thanks. If the choice is to move him to the multilayered cage, or to move him to a normal, flat cage that's 4'x2' & move the current corn snake resident of the flat cage into the multi layered cage, which one would utilize the verticle shelves more, the corn or the Hog?

May I ask how old your hog is, and what size cage are you currently keeping it in? Thanks, Derek

He's ginormous, considering he's still my "baby" at only a year old. He's already 4 feet long & weighs nearly 3 pounds! I feel I may have overfed him in his first year & am cutting him down substantially now, although he is in no way fat.

Oops, forgot to tell you about caging. I have both my Hog Islands in a cage I built. Here's a pic. Each section is 4'x2'x12". It also houses a corn, a gopher & a blue tongue skink.

That is awesome! I can't wait to get my pair of Hogs. I started building my own cages too. They look much nicer, and you feel better about your stuff when you build it yourself. Nice cages! Derek

Thanks I love designing & building cages. I also did one for my frog & toad, here. It was fun & I'm so proud of them.
