I love visiting the states to go herp'n!

The first thing that comes to mind about South Dakota (I've never been there yet, but have come close) is the big herp zoo at Mount Rushmore. I believe Tad Phillips is the curator, he'll probably post here to confirm this. It's got the largest, most varied hot collection that i've heard about.

As far as herping in unknown territory I found that the state herp atlas (that book with all the tiny county back roads in it ect. ) really helped me out. I was visiting Wisconsin and found far away hunting areas and a place called rattlesnake ridge because of this book. I had a blast.

Good luck on your trip!
Ian

I was in Wisconsin and it seemed every household had one. I think they got it from what they called the DMV. Does that make sense?
