Light weight racks

BOASELECTER Jul 22, 2005 08:34 AM

I am building a new rack for my small boas and want to do it differantly from my white meamine ones as they weigh far foo much.

I was planning on making quite a thin frame (about 15mm) covered with something. Was thinking plywood but its obviously not waterproof, then thaught some type of plastic of perpex, but not sure what would be best, for durability and scratch resistance.

Apologies if this has been covered recently as I havent been following the forum much as I have been movin house.

Any other ideas on lightening the load?

Cheers

Sam

Sam,

What sort of plastics are available you in the UK other than Perspex?

The problem with Perspex is that it will warp if any sort of heat tape is attached directly to the plastic, which is hard to avoid with racks. I would not build a rack out of it, even if only using ambient room heat with no gradiant.

I would love some profecional racks but cant afford

Any ideas greatly appriciated..
