Night time activity... what's normal?

nightserpent Jul 22, 2005 08:49 AM

After I adopted my BP, he would come out of his hide box every night at around 9:30-11:00, he'd cruise around the tank for twenty minutes or so, take a drink and then go back to his hide. About three weeks later, I finally got him to eat, and I haven't seen him come out since (that was two weeks ago). The second time I fed him, he nabbed the mouse and took it into his hide, and even swallowed it in the tight confines of the box. Granted, I don't know what he's doing between the hours of midnight and 8 AM, so perhaps he's more active later on.

Is this normal? I wonder if his original movement was in search of food, now that he has eaten, he sees no real need to search for it. I've taken him out to inspect him, but otherwise, I have not seen him leave the hide on his own in a couple weeks now. He has a hide in the colde zone (80 degress), and I have never seen him use it.

Any idea what's going on?

Sounds like he is settling in to me. My rescued bp did the same thing after we first got him. He looked around, then after a while he came out less. If he is healthy don't worry about it. If he shows signs of an RI or anything else, get him checked out.

It did look like he was testing my carpentry skills when he first moved in to this new enclosure. So, perhaps you're right, he's just settling in. I hope he starts coming back out some day, as it isn't that fun feeding a hide box.

I don't think he has RI or anything. No open mouth, no wheezing, no discharge, and he's eating OK. *fingers crossed*
