Steph, need your help with eggs.

One of our females laid two days ago. I haven't been able to find vermiculite locally, so I've used moist Bed-A-Beast as an incubation medium. I have the eggs at 80.00 and have started noticing light tan speckling on the eggs and I'm wondering if this just means the eggs are going bad or if the humidity inside the incubator is too high and the eggs are absorbing some brown coloration from the substrate (they almost appear to be "water spots" more so than necrosis of the shell). I have noticed condensation on the lid of the container that they're in and I cracked it about an hour ago to allow more air flow and hopefully let out some excess moisture. Do you think the eggs are lost?

Thanks in advance.

Jennifer

It could easily be subtrate 'stains' or a little darkening from condensation drops on the egg itself. Its happened with ours, too, on occasion. It doesn't sound like its anything to worry about, but you want to avoid having condensation on the eggs on a regular basis. You did the right thing by adjusting the lid and allowing for better air exchange.
