jani question................

Steve G Jul 22, 2005 04:19 PM

This girl hatched out last year, and right from the get go, had a little different look from any other jani that I have produced. She is pale on the sides with washed out dorsal blotches, but still has nice orange coloration running down her spine. Has anyone seen one quite like this? I'll let someone else throw out the hypo word, as I have heard a lot of definitions for that term.

Here is another pic with the above snake and two of her siblings. The contrast is fairly easy to note.

It certainly looks hypo to me. Congrats on a beautiful animal!

By the way, I hatched out 13 beautiful jani from those awesome hatchlings I got from you back in 2002.

Chris..........congrats on the hatchlings. I've got two clutches that should be out by the time of the Daytona expo. By the way, I haven't posted much recently, and I noticed that they have added a lot of space to the free photo gallery for pics. I'll see if I can do some photo work this weekend and post some more jani pics. I have a couple of '04 males from that high orange line that I am working on, that are real eye candy. Shoot me an e-mail about your Daytona plans. Hopefully, we can hook up and chat pits and more...........regards........Steve G.

Those are really nice snakes! Definently some lookers, that possible hypo is very unique. How big are those guys at one year old?

My '04 jani range from 34-38 inches......males seem to grow a bit faster.

I'm not a morph guy,and would not know a hypo if it bit me! But I also have a jani with interesting "blotches".

Hi Lloyd

I'm curious where you got your aberrant jani. Is that the male that Ben Siegel was selling a couple of months ago? If so, now I know who beat me to it, hehe. Take care.

Hi Jonel:

Yes,I bought the snake from Ben last November. But it was sold to me as a female, however I have never had it probed.

Since Ben is local, I might have bought a clutchmate at his store before you saw the male advertised! However since I hope pick it up a mate at Daytona,I'd better check for sure now,in case it is indeed the same snake.

I've seen several aberrants that tend to stripe, but not the intricate pattern that yours has. Maybe you can get a line of those going. Perhaps you can call them reticulate jani or spider jani.......If you spell spyder like the race cars, I believe you are entitled to a higher price.........lol.

Hi Steve

That's definitely a very nice "hypo-ish" looking animal. I also own an animal with some abberancy who's line also originated form A. Kardon's bloodline with some L. Lemke's bloodline mixed in. I got my animals from Matt Turner and he has produced a couple of the semi-striped individuals. I'm also wondering if these are random aberrancies or genitic. Here's a picture of my '04 female. She feeds really well(rats) and is approx 3.5+ feet at only a year old. Hope we can figure out what's going on with these animals in a few years. Take care.

Jonel.......The deppei complex seems to produce a fair amount of these striped aberrant forms. I wonder if any of these forms have ever been field collected. It could be genetic or possibly induced by incubation temps. I had never produced any of these stripers until last year. I got one male out of one clutch, and a female out of the other. I have two clutches incubating at the moment......looks like 38 good eggs between the both. We will see how many aberrant hatchlings turn up.......stay tuned!
