BOIGA CYANAE VENOM?

MILLWALL Jul 22, 2005 05:26 PM

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE EFFECT'S OF BOIGA CYANAE (GREEN CATEYED SNAKE) VENOM?
IS THE VENOM LIKE OTHER MANGROVE SNAKES?
DO BOIGA CYANAE ACTUILLY HAVE TO CHEW FOR THERE VENOM TO TAKE EFFECT?
I HAVE A 4FT MALE THAT IS VERY DEFENCIVE AND WOULD LIKE TO TAME HIM, IS HE SAFE TO HANDLE WITH BARE HANDS?
IE; NO PINNING DOWN THE HEAD IN ORDER TO HANDLE HIM (WHICH ONLY MAKES HIM MORE NERVOUS)

THESE ARE BEUATIFAL SNAKES AND I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO TAME HIM

CHEERS

The venom is potently neurotoxic but secreted slowly and with a relatively inefficient delivery system. Bites are unlikely to cause more than transient mild symptoms. Bites can be avoided just through the use of light gardening gloves and long sleeve shirt.

I have a male and a female wich have ben breeding a few weeks ago.
I also have mangrov snake and various other boiga species in my collection.
The cyanea's I have are CB and really tame. tame in the sense that I can pick them up without them getting irritated and tame in the way that feed pre killed prey directly out of the pincet (tweezer?).
I consider a dendrophila a bit more dangerous then cyanea's,just because of the size of their head and their theeth. i think they just hav a larger potention to gt a grip and really inject venom into a human.
Like Brian said: using gloves ande wearing a sweater with long sleeves should be enough.Though I wouldn't reccommend taming any boiga species because I have been trought several situations where boiga's just stopped feeding for a while after for exampling puttimg it in a fauna-box, or chaning its environment. Especially with wild caught animals I would not recommend it.
