New Sulcata - Questions on outdoor habitat

BonnieBlue Jul 22, 2005 05:59 PM

I have a new young Sulcata and want to make sure the outdoor area is appropriate. Temps are very warm and humid.

Has the following:

Area is about 200sq feet (will increase size as tort grows)
Large area with full sun and large area shaded from sunlight - hutch is in protected area
Bermuda grass hay in hutch and spread around
shallow soaking pool
Begonias, Petunias, aloe vera, low-growing roses, and spineless cacti planted. Also have mature elephant ears and caladiums that were already there, but unsure if they are safe for tort to eat.
The tort yard is completely enclosed and extends below ground to allow for burrowing/tunnelling.

So far the little thing seems to really enjoy it. Walks around, soaks itself, and nibbles on the plants and eats from food dish.

Any corrections I need to make for the area? Or additions the tort would enjoy or benefit from?

Thanks.

The only thing and I am not positive, but they should not be given a lot of humidity. I thought a more dry, arid climate was better. I have a leopard and was planning to get a couple of sulcatas. That is what I though I say in a few books.
