What happend?

Anybody know when they closed down Glendora Mountain Road and the top half of Hwy 39?

I was up there today and found 4 helleri 3 live 1 dor, and a Gopher, but the entire top half of 39 was closed off by a serious gate!

It's been over a year since I've been up there but I know at SOME point in 2002 I went all the way up 39 to the top.

Just curious as to why and when they closed it down and when they plan on opening it back up.

Close due to fire. Wont reopen until after April 2004. Its alls screwed up there, even Angeles Crest Hwy. is shut down. If you thinbk the roads closers are bad, drive up during the day and checkout all the silt that distroyed the rocky streams. The once rocky streams, now look like desert washes.

PEace, and remember only U can prevent forest fires!

Well it didn't seem to put a damper on the helleri population. I might head back up there again in the next few weeks to check it out again.

Does anybody know if they try to discourage people from walking up the road past the gate?

From what i was told you are not allowed to walk, hike, or even bike beyond the gate. Hell with common helleri's, try and find something like a Rana or once common newt in the distroyed stream. Now that would be a discovery.
