i got him back in 1997, he was an average looking hatchling. it just happened that there was no choice of any other brooksi at that event (a herp club meeting) so he is the one i went home with. got to say i think he turned out pretty well...

since this pic was taken, this son of a gun is becoming quite the looker. will be about 36" by the end of the summer, his first year. he would probably eat a shoe but usually sticks to several rat fuzzies...

this guy as well, since this pic was taken, he has taken off on the rat fuzzies. time to get some new pictures, to me he is one of the cleanest whitesides i have seen...all the dorsal interband space appears to be whitish and his bands are reduced very nicely...

i really enjoy this girl, one of the best looking females that i keep. she is an '02 offspring from Brandon's big whitie. I thought i was going to get some offspring from her this year, but it didn't work out as planned- definitely my fault.
my understanding of this trait is it's a wild phenotype as the hatchlings come out black red and yellow/white.i am thinking about breeding her next year to a whiteside male, to produce whiteside hets, with the following generation to be white whitesides... what do you think...

she is one of the first of her "kind", i hatched her out in 2000. her mate was kind of sluggish this year so no eggs of these either...yin and yang. any how, what a great girl, another one that would grab a shoe or anything else for that matter. a great year for her to just be and hopefully some great plans for next season

this is my best pair of hypos, i produced the male in '02, he has an aberrant pattern and patternless ventrals. i got the female at the NY metro reptile expo 2 years ago. i have plan "a" and "b" with these animals... I would love to breed them together and see what the offspring would look like (normal phenotype maybe?). one or the other will most likely be paired up with a whiteside, depending on who is ready in the spring, to make some double hets (white side x hypo). that will be an interesting trait as will the sulfur lavender albinos paired to white sides...

taking the time to look at a slice of my collection. I am very grateful to maintain these animals. some came from the great folks that post here, some are locality specific to upstate ny!!! as this year has shown ( little reproductive activity/success, = nobody's fault but mine...) they will humble you in a minute, the kingsnake breeding recipie may work on many occasions but i feel you have to listen to what they are saying...
and i'm counting down the days to daytona...

!
hey jeff,
how are you doing this year? i have to say, that hypo striper always makes me drool. what do you have planned for it??
are you going to have a table at daytona?
dave
I will not have a table but I will be there. I really enjoy walking around and meeting people way too much to get a table. We will have to hook up.
Jeff
Both of you have an outstanding group of brooksi,I was very fortunate to meet you Dave in Daytona 2002,we had a long conversation on brooksi,my friend was with me, and we both walked away with a great deal of info, and my friend left with 2 of your hypos. Thanks to both of you for sharing part of you collections with us,they truly are stunning animals.Heres an old photo I can't seem to get rid of.
I hope you never get rid of that pic!

steve-
thanks for the compliments. i will be in daytona milling around, maybe see you there
daveb
what are those two red normals het for and whom are they from? Are they Tim Ricks het lav's?
NICE!
the one on top is from breeding a love hypo to a normal resulting in a hypo het. the second i am not so sure on when i asked if there was any albino background the guy heemed and hawed a little. when the real redone is up to size, i will breed her to the sulfur lavender and see what pops out, hope to figure out her genetic makeup.
thanks
daveb
Very cool! Thanks for the pics, it looks as if you have spent some quality time with your snakes!

I like what you had to say in closing Dave. I had a so so year over here but I feel I understand why things turned out they way they did and that means I can try something a little different next year. For example, I better insulated my snake room this year, and it held temps better. However my cages highest off the floor were probably too hot. I tried opening them often and cutting their heat source but to no avail, follicles were reabsorbed. This particular proven snake bred and produced in the same cage last year, but the extra few degrees that the new insulation created may have been just a little too much. Live and learn Tom Stevens
That is such a nice looking snake Dave. I am working on some interesting things for Brooksi for the future but not having a Ghost drives me nuts LOL. Some day........ Tom Stevens
tom-
what projects do you have cooking?
daveb
I think that is a good plan Dave. If you eventually get White Sides that still resemble the White Line those will be cool looking. I too struck out on a project or two this year and have a good feeling why it happened. However the problems are easily remedied next year and I did OK with other things so it's all good. Tom Stevens
