grated yellow squash, carrots, greens, crickets ect. What else is good for Adults, 15 week olds and 5 week olds

sacredpurr Jul 22, 2005 07:23 PM

I have 4 adults, 1 15 week old and 20 4 and 5 wek old babies, I am looking for info and how to prepare it for all the different age groups I have. Can the babies eat the grated yellow squash and carrots. I use a food processer so its fine but want to make sure. Also what other bugs, I have crickets, small superworms, mealworms, mini mealworms and silkworms, I have only owned our BD's for 5 weeks now. I have bee researching the internet, I have ordered some books and I am on here. Some say different things about the bugs so I am totally confused. What is the cheapest yet safest and also a variety to feed my gang? Thanks for any help, Deb and Kai, Skyla, Banshee, Voodoo, Puff and the babies.

www.beautifuldragons.com has an excellent food chart listing fruits and veggies to feed as staples, what to feed occasionally, and what not to feed. I believe carrots should only be fed occasionally. As for the mealworms they can be hard for the babies to digest. Silkies are great, crickets too, although I have found with owning multiple dragons roaches are the way to go. I invested in some lobster roaches last year and haven't bought feeders since, (besides silkies) the colonies have grown so quickly that I have had an endless supply of smaller roaches to feed my hatchlings this year. They take a while to get used to, but they are excellent feeders, much "meatier" than crickets. I don't think I would have been able to afford to feed my gravid female let alone all the babies otherwise.

Yowsa!! Looks like that BD has never missed a meal. I'm gonna have to give roachs a try. I ordered some with my last cricket order, but they didn't arrive.

Oh yes I already do give the pellets for juvies to the young ones and then pellets for adults to the adults. I haven't tried Roaches yet. But I plan to try them. Does anyone use one place that sells all the bug goodies, like silkworms, crickets, supers, waxworms, fruit flies, roaches and mealies? I have other reptiles that eat bugs too so I need to find one place that sells it all and that has the best prices too. I did research on a few bug places and so far think Reptile food.com is the best but they do not sell Roaches. Also what are the green giants and do beardies eat these? I saw them on one site. Thanks for any help on this.

The green giants I believe would be the horn worms. Mine love them. When you buy them they are less than 1inch and within 10 days they are around 5inches and fat and juicy! My adults really move for them! Roaches can be found on the reptileauction, I actually have some colonies available there right now. If you want your roach colony to grow quickly you only feed off the juveniles(without wings) and leave the adults(with wings) to reproduce.
