What happened?

Paul2 Jul 16, 2003 02:27 AM

I was looking around to pair up some animals (I'm finally rebuilding my critters after a virus and cat accident killed most of my colubrids in 2000)

Anway, saw some wonderful stuff; hadn't looked at pits in two or three years.

But what happened to the San Diego gopher? I can find all the albinos I would ever want but was unable to locate a single normal to match with my lady! I'm gonna wind up with a PB albino from BHB (it came down to him and Cherryville, he won the coin toss), but I'm still rankled about the lack of normals.
I also noticed a lack of any other morphs, and I recall at least one or two other mutations being around. Did I miss something?

By the way, who are the serious pit breeders? I know Cherryville does extensive work with them, unaware of any others. Most seem to have pines and maybe one or two gophers, but not much else.

Thanks!
Paul

PS--have a bullsnake questions, about a male (I think) from Alpine. Does anyone know what size that locality gets? I know our Colorado sayi stay small, and I've seen huge ones from South Texas, but never any adults in the N. Central part of the state.

I should have some hets hatching out in a few weeks. My female I've been told, and have to agree, that my female is one of the best looking San Diego's around. Visit my website for a pic.

Take care and have a great week!

You need to check out Envy Reptiles. I don't think anyone has more Gophers than Jason. It's listed in the breeders section, tons of great pics to drool over. I bought a pair of Sonorans from him and they are perfect. Tom

I agree, ENVY has the largest selection of gophers I've seen and they're good folks.

I second that, Envy is #1. Last year I got a male Anery San Diego Gopher from Jason and I could not have asked for a better animal or better service. This year I'm getting a yellow/green Snow from him. I'll post a pic when she arrives.

I found plenty of applegate albinos--I just kind of like the PB albino more, they seem....odder?
Thanks for the heads on the breeders ya'll, I'll be sure to use them over the next several years!

Check out Envy Reptiles for the best San Diego Gophers out there.

I contacted Envy; I'm gonna split my order up between him and BHB. He's got two yearlings that I'd like for my breeding...a het (ie normal appearing! Thanks!) SD gopher and a cal king.
I'm gonna use BHB for maybe an Argentine boa and mex black king

Thanks
Paul

Awesome, you made a wise choice my friend. If you can post some pics of your new Gopher. Take care, NZ.
