Good business idea?

natural_aquaria Jul 22, 2005 09:32 PM

I have been recently toying with the idea of starting a small business dealing with the design, setup and maintenance of aquariums and terrariums. I was just wondering what any of ya'll might think about this...if there is really even a market for this kind of thing...

Thanks for any input...
Kristin

There's a pet shop by me that does this sort of thing. They specialize in saltwater tanks. But the thing about this is you have to be REALLY good, and really know what you're doing. Most of the places they go are like, Doctors offices, or places of business that keep saltwater tanks for decoration, where no one wants to do any maintainance on them. Most places want the really colorful, energetic fish, not reptiles or amphibs or even freshwater animals.

I doubt there's enough demand in any one area to make any good money on it. But if you could convince a few places to let you setup and maintain a tank, I suppose you could make some side money on it.

my cousin does that and works at a pet shop so he gets the people who want the tank but not the work and have the money to pay him. again it is mainly saltwater tanks, reef tanks. he doesnt make enough to live off of, its just some extra spending money. you would have better luck in a city where there is more people and offices with the tanks. you would still need a way to connect with your potential clients. good luck.
