It's a gopher snake. Does that answer your question? If you want to qualify it as a subspecies, then I'd go with the Great Basin sub.

Sorry about that. I've never been to California in my life, so I honestly had no clue (although I knew it wasn't Florida...was just messing with you).
If I told you I found a blacktail rattlesnake in the Carlsbad area, would you believe me?
blacktail in carlsbad, well, I definatly know they are not indigenous to carlsbad, but neither was the ball python my friend at the lagoon while walking his dog! So, in answer to your question, I guess anything is possible but I dont really beleive you! Maybe someone who had atleast been to california, sure I couldnt rule out them possibly seeing one in carlsbad (again, they are non indigenous) but how did you see one in carlsbad if you have never been to california?

not sure if there is a Carlsbad in Mexico.
I beleive it is about 40 mi. so of rosarito but i am not exactly sure. i just remeber there being a carlsbad and a la costa (both city names are also so. cal cities as well) I dont remeber where the la costa was but it was pretty and on the coast, same w/ carlsbad. Again, nice molossus

I'll eventually head out to California. Like I said, I've never been there, so it would be nice to herp a new area. Mexico is also place I'd definitely like to herp.
Beautiful snake, Eric!

Sure I'd believe you, if it was the one in New Mexico
But, I sure wouldn't be looking for boas in New Jersey. Hell, I don't think I'd want to look for anything in New Jersey....LOL.

PS- but you can't surf at your's though...........
....Theres the point eh, we otta give at least state & preferably cty info w/ good posts like yours.... as this forum covers a pretty large geographic area...I can only guess how many pioneertowns there are, heck we even have one in az!
I found an Az Black in just outta Miami one time...but thats a pretty good area for em

.....a very nice one!
By the neck, Id go w/ GB too, its interesting over in Cal how the desert type pits make it right up to the coastranges but as soon as I get up out of the desert, the coastal SD type pattern seems to prevail, Ive never seen an intergrade zone, tho it should be there??
Your many photos are much appreciated too, some of them
are not visible (little red x boxes)...would you repost the regurging one that was hit by the car?
Saludos / RxR

Pioneer Town? Do you mean the town of Pioneer in Amador County? If so cool I dont live far from ya we should go out some time.
My research and Collection
I will post the regurge by this evening, I promise.
