Hi,

Retic males average about 14-17 feet and females are 17 . 25 footers are in captivity (Bob clark has one "Fluffy". Typically, genetics will ultimately determine exactly how large it will get.

Hope this helps,

Chris

is that for retics or dwarf retics?

goini04 Jul 25, 2005 02:03 PM

Standard retics, not exactly positive of Dwarfs, but I believe they hand up around 9ft.

Sorry, I skipped over the word "Dwarf" while reading the topic. To my knowledge, dwarf retics typically get around 9ft on the large size. If you are not experienced with large constrictors, then just keep in mind that retics (all of them) have very strong feeding responses.

Sorry that I mis-answered your original question, hope I cleared it up for you.

Well atleast you have appropriate experience with snakes. That is certainly a good start! Retics have a much stronger feeding response, but atleast with a Dwarf Retic you dont have to worry about the tremendous size. Precautions should still be taken but as long as you have atleast 1 other person to help you out, you should be ok.

Good Luck,

Chris

There's a lot of differen't "Dwarf" breedings so you can't just say that any given snake is going to get a predictable size. Look at the post above with the jampea. 15' That's not a dwarf.
Some of the dwarf breedings now are starting to top out at 10-12 ft. The typical dwarf retics will get a little larger. It takes a long time to breed a dwarf line of retic. You at least have to wait til the animal gets a few years on it before you can decide if it's small enough to add to the dwarf line. So ppl with "dwarf" retics just throw them together and breed them because they're dwarfs before seeing the animals size potential are possibly breeding the largest animals from a clutch and out breeding the dwarfism. So, unless you get a dwarf from bob clark or some other reputable breeder i wouldn't be judging adult size.

Well said. I have no idea who you are but we think very much alike.

I have three 5 year old Jampeas. I do not consider them dwarfs as most do. I have one female that is just shy of being 15' and 101 pounds, another female from a different mother that is 14', and I can really tell you how long my male is but I know he is 58 pounds. Since these Jampeas are only 5 years old they have years of growth to go. They hardly will be record breakers when compared to the mainland retics. They still get big.
