Successful breeding of C.rhombifer in Europe

Ralf Sommerlad Jul 23, 2005 12:08 PM

Cuban crocodiles are rarely kept in European zoos, institutions or by private keepers. A private breeder from the Czech Republic today reported to me the hatching of 2 pure C.rhombifer. It is hoped, that some more will hatch today. Congratulations !

Hopefully a diverse gene pool can be established in case they need to be re-established in the wild one day. From what I hear, they are not doing all that well in Cuba.
Speaking of rhombifer, I was just thinking about the one that was in a video clip about five years ago that resided in a personal residence. I'm guessing you remember it as it was all over the croc listserv. The video showed the croc taking a bath and sitting outside along side the footpath while the mailman made his delivery etc. I believe the clip was from a TV show in Poland (?)
