Local Herp Society

flboy21283 Jul 16, 2003 07:46 AM

This Message I posted in the Herp society of Florida. However, those forums are not that popular, SO i thought I would also post it in here and see If i get any response. basically I'm just looking for other herpers in my area and any events that might be going on locally, or stores to shop at for reptile products and whatnot. here ya be, enjoy!!

Morning Florida people! My name is James. I moved here from NY about 2 years ago. Unfortunately at the time, I was 17, and my family said I would only be able to take ONE snake with me. So, i brought my 7' high orange phase het. for hypomelanistic BRB with me. Anyway, Here I am in Florida, and the Herp Society seems so small. And of course, as you well know, if you think that's bad, try finding a DATE!!! I had One dude come over the house a few weeks ago to hang out, saw my 16' retic sleeping on the couch, turned RIGHT back around and left. I'm looking for places to go or look up online that have other people involved in the care, breeding, and rescue of these awesome animals. I currently have 0.1 Neon yellow patternless green tree python biak, 0.1 BRB 0.1 EVIL albino cal king 1.0 Reticulated python and 1.1 Green anacondas. Yup, definately enough pet snakes to make people wonder. lol. My family is pretty cool with the reptiles, dad always used to bring some odd pet home for us when we were kids. There are some pictures of my condas on the anaconda forum, and I think one or two of my retic in the python forum as well. I currently live in Jacksonville FL, I'm being moved to Orlando very soon with both of the companies I work for. I'll be 20 on 2/12 and I plan on making room for a litter of baby Condas. hehe. If anyone could help me get information on finding more Snake lovers in my area here in jacksonville and in orlando, that would be greatly appreciated, (The reptile scene here is even smaller than the gay scene...)Light and Love to all the people who take pride in the conservation and care of animals everywhere.
James

Are you kidding? Florida is the herping capital of the world! Of course, Jax isn't really Florida, but more like the capital of south Georgia.

I'm not sure about Orlando specifically, but I know Gainesville has a large and active herp society. (The University of Florida has what is probably the #1 herp program in the world).

Also, check this page out: http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/natsci/herpetology/fhl.htm

And definitely go to the Daytona show next month. You can certainly find some contacts there.

Sorry I can't help you with the gay scene, except to say that Miami is the only real cosmopolitan city in Florida.
