Tricks to feeding

SalatoCenterKY Jul 24, 2005 03:31 PM

We have a wildcaught milk snake that's great, except she doesn't want to eat. Any tips? Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated.

hi.....im no expert but this has worked for me with stubborn eaters, ive gotten fresh dead mice and pokked a hole in the head with a needle and let some of the blood and brain matter get smeared on the head, the snake usually reacts to this, hope this might help

What kind of milksnake is it? You may need to try some local food items that you are sure are parasite free. A live skink (groundskinks are often available to purchase) often does the trick. If you feed it once, feed it a mouse while its still in its feeding mode. With stubborn eaters I have put a live food item next to a f/t, and if they chose the live, they usually get the f/t after, or sometimes they eat the f/t right away. Works like magic. Also, what temps are you keeping it at? Low temps could trouble eating.
