I brought home three baby RETF's yesterday from the Columbus Reptile show. The breeder was very helpful with information. I have had the enclosure set up for over a week in anticipation of getting the frogs. When I bought them they were all in excellent health. All three were asleep on the side of the container the breeder had them in. They are also only a month or two old out of froglet stage.
Now to my concern. I got them in their new enclosure and I did not notice any activity last night. I have 25 watt red bulb on them and the temperatures remains at 75-77 degrees. Humidity is about 60%. I have live plants and some plastic. All water in the enclosure is spring water that has been treated. Two of the frogs turned a very dark green and displayed some red on their legs after a few hours in the enclosure. I feared red leg. Since last night one has turned back to the normal green. However one is still very dark green. Good news is that I do not notice any red on any of them any more.
Am I worrying over nothing? I think this may be because of the stress of a new environment. They are not eating either which concerns me. The breeder said that they are eating 1/4 inch crickets. That threw me a bit because I would've thought that they would only be eating pinhead ones.
Does anyone have any suggestions or information? I just want to make sure the little guys are well taken care of and healthy.

Hi! Your babies had a stressfull time being moved and in a new set up. I had a retf who was living in a terrarium that got smashed (our house kind of, well, fell apart...) so I had to move her to a new set up during the day, there was a lot of commotion that day, etc. That night she slept and she didn't wake up untill a week later. After that she woke almost nightly. Your frogs can go a while without eating. When they sleep, they are in a slow metabolic state, conserving water and energy. If they are lime green in color, staying moist, and full bodied (not thin, emaciated) then they are just shy. Make sure you give them "privacy" at night so they feel more comfortable. If you can, keep room lights dim, no flashes. If they are in your bedroom, use a small desklamp at night. Try to keep noise low, quiet tv is ok, but don't go blasting music near their cage. Try not to open the cage for a while while thei're awake. My RETF would start coming awake at the same time regardless of lighting, but it took her months to become comfortable.
