Zoe (Female C. Bicinctores) has been acting weird lately..

12JC21 Jul 24, 2005 05:36 PM

I watched her almost daily in the pet store for a week (I work there), and she didn't do much besides eat and bask. The first day I brought her home she wouldn't eat. Figured that was just because of the change of scenery. Now I always find her digging new places to sleep, even though there are plenty of hides. She digs in the corners during the day, but at night she is always digging near or to get under rocks. Is she looking for a nest or is this just natural behaivor? Also, she does a weird twisty motion with her head while rubbing her nose on the glass. Just looking for a way to get out?

A couple of days after I brought her home, she eats as many crickets as she can get ahold of (She won't eat superworms, only lick them). So I wouldn't think that she is pregnant. She doesn't really look any fatter, only when she is basking. She likes to spread as flat as she can. Lol.

One last thing, what will they eat besides crix that is easy to get? I've read they will take pinkies, even though I doubt Zoe would bother with one. Just looking to spice up their diet a little! Thanks!

One lizard that I got about six months ago did nothing but try to climb the glass after she arrived; she did it all the time, even staying up later than the others just to "exercise." After a couple of months she settled down a little bit, but she still spends a fair amount of time climbing and digging. You're probably right about the changes of scenery causing that behavior. Give her a while and see if she doesn't settle down. If she does not, can you put the cage in a more secluded place, or can you cover up the sides of the glass so she can't see out? That may help. About the weird twisting of her head against the glass--I have no idea. I'm having trouble picturing what you're describing.

If you want variety in her diet try things that fly, they love them! If you can catch some moths outside I'll bet she'll do acrobatics to eat them. Mine have always loved cockroaches, too. Goodness knows, here in the woods in Alabama those are easy to come by

Good luck,

élan

Hello,
I'm raising crickets and mealworms, but while i'm waiting for the population to increase I feed mine lots of things. Centipedes, beetles, grasshoppers, and jerusilum crickets (aka potato bugs).

Good luck,
Morgan
