well... the reason these snakes are not reccomended for beginners is because the equipment is expensive... plus the cost of the snakes... not trying to be rude... everyone starts somewhere...

but before you go out and buy lights i think you should check out big apple herp... i put a link to it in this message... i use the 11x11 and they work great... i also use the Herp Power Proportional Thermostat from them... and it works great as well...

but if you are going to go with lights i dont think it would be advised to use anything over 30 watt...

good luck

well may i ask why a light isnt the best option? and what type of bedding do you use
ohh and listen to this. my 2 foot carpet python is half coiled around my neck and half coiled arond my glasses in a strike position. looks funny from my position!

lights can burn snakes much easier
if a proper heat panel with thermostat you should have nothing to worry about... i like it because i can go on vacation for 3 weeks and not worry if the light burned out or not...

i use paper towels...

Heat panels are great they due not burn your snakes they can move from under the panel and be alot cooler than if they tried to move from a bulb. Bulbs inside cages with nothing covering them is a great way to kill your new friend. I remember going to a guys house that had some Chondro's for sale and when I went in his snake room all of the Chondros were wrapped around the heat bulb. He had 6 snakes in one cage talk about crappy caging. The heat panel has a 10 year warranty your bulb might last a few months then off to the store again. The Alife thermostat is junk I had one years ago and would not recommend one. I think I paid like $50 maybe a little less but it sucked. Big Apples are like $100 I think but they work great. If your gonna pay a nice chunk of change on a snake make sure you use trustworthy products and set it all up a few months before buying the snake. Most breeders latley are doing payment plans so thats another thought so you can buy the right products first then finish paying off your Chondro once your cage has been tested and runs smoothly. Have fun and watch out you might end up with more money in Chondros than an average person makes in a year.
