A few king pics....

Phil Peak Jul 24, 2005 06:32 PM

Let me start by saying please excuse the urates! I was cleaning some cages today and took a few pics of some of my kings. Seems they always want to pose better before being removed for cage cleaning. Anyhow, here is one of my getula, this one is an Iredell county N.C. 03 male. The artificial lighting does a number on the true colors on all these snakes but you can at least get a general idea. Essentially a black snake with pure white cross bars. phil

Another Iredell county N.C. getula. This is an 04 female which as you can see is entering a shed phase. I'll take some post shed pics and post afterwards. I think this is one of my nicest looking kings and should develope into quite a snake. Her pattern is very clean and is also basically a black snake with white pattern. I also have an adult pair of these snakes that I'll get pics of soon. Phil

Here is a look at my backyard king snake from Jefferson county KY. Essentially a classic black nigra with little or no intrusions on the dorsum. This is one of my breeder females that I decided to give the year off.

And finally a holbrooki from Mo stock. Flash did a serious number on this one as well. I plan on getting outdoor pics of all my kings prior to winter cooling and capture a better representation of them. Enjoy seeing everyones pics and thought I should contribute something. Thanks for looking! Phil

Love that Holbrooki Phil. From what I can tell in the photo, it looks like that one has white specks on a black body? What a beauty.

Steve, I would say the pair I have are black with white speckles on the dorsum with the ventral area being off white to yellowish with very few black markings scattered here and there. Interesting snakes for sure. Phil

Great group of getulas, Phil. I like 'em all but the '04 female is really clean! Thanks for the pics!

You can't beat a nice speckled king. The patternless ones are very attractive snakes. Here in Texas they are yellow and greenish black. Does yours have white speckles or is the flash making yellow look white? Nice snakes

Thanks! I have always thought holbrooki to be one of the under rated kings that for some mysterious reason is not more popular with hobbyist. The speckling on the back is white on a field of black. The belly is an off white to yellowish though. Phil

Wow Phil, that is a nice looking speckled king. I'm looking forward to that natural light shot. Don't forget now!

I really like that pair of NC easterns too. And the KY nigra - goes without saying. Great animals.

Thanks Tim. I hope to take some pics one day that do these snakes some justice. With my camera I have a tough time with indoor shots but its 100 degrees out right now so I'll have to wait until it cools down some. Phil

That's a nice looking Eastern Phil. I love the thin, bone white chain pattern on a jet black body. Where did you pick that one up?

Thanks Steve. These are the product of a local breeder that collected his original stock a number of years ago. He had seen the pic in Braswell and Palmers N.C. book and decided he wanted go find some and he did. It took him two trips to collect both sexes but he pulled it together nicely. From what he told me they originated from near Statesville. Phil

Nice Easterns! I like how white the bands are.

Thanks Sean. I just love the natural diversity within various populations of getula! Phil
