UVB lighting

ladywhipple02 Jul 24, 2005 07:26 PM

My roommate and I are thinking about getting two beardies. I've been doing my studying on them and have a question. It seems that some people insist that beardies MUST have proper UVA/UVB lighting. But others say that this isn't needed as long as the dragons are getting their proper vitamins through ingestion (such as Rep-Cal with D3). I was just wondering what everyone on here thinks? Thanks!

Though it is possible to just suppliment D3 in the diet but it is very difficult to know just how much to give. Too much and it can cause health problems, too little and other health problems can result. It is much easier to use UVB lighting and let the dragon's body metabolize what D3 it needs with light supplimentation provided.

Also Full spectrum lighting has other benefits, it improves coloration and overall wellbeing for the dragon. $20-$40 every 9 months isn't very expensive to ensure the health of your dragon.
