I hate my corn

football9755 Jul 24, 2005 07:55 PM

My corn snake, Bob, escapes from his cage like every month. He is the best escape artist ever. And my mom finds him everytime and scares the [bleep] out of her. He escaped last night. And he isnt in my room. And now my mom wont let me go to a concert b/c i cant find him. It is time to rid of him and his stupid cage. Any comments please share.

The first time it escaped was an accident. Escapees have happened to a lot of people. It is your job to see that it doesn't happen again.
I think it would be best if you get rid of the snake (if you find it again) and that "stupid" cage.
The cage can't be stupid now can it?
You are obviously not ready for the responsibility.

that was my thought to, but i didnt know how to say it ....LOL
so far, knock wood, i havent had that problem, with either snake.
but then again when you have a 5 1/2 iguana who likes to dash by you when you enter his room, you learn to escape proof.
plus i have ferrets, they get time out of the cage everyday they are hard enough to find....LOL

Well I don't know what kind of corn it is, but it's a "stupid cage." Who makes the stupid cage, Critter Keeper?

Oh that's right. It's an inanimate object that can't be stupid.

Ok, now that we've all hazed the kid, here's the advice. Hey kid, take responsibility for your inadequate management of the snake. Escapes happen, but they happen less to people who are meticulously
systematic in their husbandry. The ones who always double and triple check security and make sure their enclosures are up to snuff just don't have many escapes.

Well, I've had escapes (1 adult, 2 hatchlings), so it does happen. However, to have it happen repeatedly is your fault.

1) Identify how the snake is escaping and fill in the hole/gap/whatever.

2) If you can't find out how it's escaping, buy a new tank or vivarium that is more secure.

3) If you can't do either of the above, pass the snake on to somebody who can.

I can't say I'm surprised you've been grounded - if your Mom feels like that, I'm only surpried that you've been allowed to keep the Corn this long. It's not "the stupid cage" that's responsible for the same snake escaping over and over. It's you. That's the message that your Mom's giving you and I agree.
