albino chameleons???

iceyesnteeth Jul 24, 2005 09:45 PM

has anyone heard of albino chameleons??are they possible?? they are the only type of reptile species where i have never heard of an albino.i once heard of a leucistic jacksons but thats it.considering the amount of captive bred veilds i find it strange that an odd colored one hasnt popped up yet.if an albino chameleon is possible, what do you think an albino veiled would be worth??

i think ive seen an albino veild somewhere as well. since there are such a low amount of albino chams the price would be through the roof if not priceless.

yea, thats the jacksons i was talking about.that is the only albino chameleon i have ever seen.too bad its a jacksons and not a veiled or panther.jacksons lack of color patterns make a not so nice looking albino, well at least compared to what an albino veiled or panther would look like.

Albinism happens in all animals but in the wild the Albino animals perish and can not make it too long. There have been a couple of Albino (of different species) hatched or born in captivity but they have all perished. A couple of years back an Albino Mellers Chameleon (Chamaeleo T. Melleri) came in from Mozambique. The animal was with Kameran Tempedelan of Bushmaster Reptiles but if memory serves me the animal perished a short while after its arrival into the country. There were a few breeders (such as myself) that wanted to get the animal but the price that was being asked for it was way too high.
