Florescent lighting question.

drasticplastic Jul 25, 2005 01:44 PM

will florescent lighting have a negative effect on a boa? I have a 4ft bolivian and I'm thinking about installing a florescent light inside of his cage, only problem is I bought the light a long time ago and I don't remember which kind of light I bought. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure but I've heard some lighting (over exposure to
UV bulbs and/or black lights (for blacklight posters) can cause eye damage, since the snakes have no eyelid, they have no way to avoid the light. If you are just using a regular florescent bulb, I would at least make sure you have a good hide or two or some way for the snake to avoid the light on it's face
