Hi Bennett,
I have read that the white Russian mulberry (Morus Alba) is used primarily for silkworm food. The seeds are reasonably priced too.
Red mulberry is sometimes available, as is Black. All these types are fine for raising silkworms. They have small berries which are good for jam or dried snacks, and the birds love them. There's a "fruitless" variety that has good leaves and available throughout Arizona (we had two).
Silkworms eat almost all types of mulberry but not those fruitless varieties that have big, thick, bristly leaves. When the silkworms are young, they like the fine, delicate leaves, and when the worms grow and are 2" or more they like the big but not too thick or dry leaves.
Hope this helps some,
.

I found a place in Ga that can send me 2 7' black mullberry trees for about $250 delivered. I can get 18" trees for about $15 a piece. Trying to raise huge quantities of silkies to feed my babies (10,000-20,000 silkies a week)I figured the bigger trees would pay off quick as the price of chow can get expensive fast.
Thanks for the feedback
