dont panick, from the looks of the board you just got this guy a day or so ago.

ive owned quite a few reptiles. when their in a new place they always act diffrent at first. ive had ball pythons be nice for the first few days, then become very sippy for the rest of their lives.

1. how deep is the water your turtle is in?
they dont need an ocean to swim in. when their babys like this if the waters deep, even if the have a landing they can get pooped swiming around in it. it should be deep enough where they can reach the surface by just standing on the hind legs.

whats the temp, what have you been feeding him?
does he have a landing spot, and i hiding spot under water? you can use a pvc elbow. you can get one from home depot.

i just got him today at the petshop im in florida for just a day longger im taking him home tomarrow he will be in a 20gal at first it is going to have a heater filter UV light feeder fish and the water is going to be only like 2 inch high does that sound right? right now his butt is floating in the air i just went and got him some feeder fish like 10mins ago he ate some reptomin like 30mins ago but he is still floating i dont have a heater here with him but he is in a small pet carrier right now and i put him next to the window to keep warm. he is still floating but i was happy to see that he ate the petstore i got him ate didnt look to good he was the only snapper in the tank filled with a lot of red ears he looked sad and i've been wanting to get a snapper so i picked him up. thanks for all the help =)

oh yeah i forgot to ask i am driving back to louisiana tomarrow it is like a 12hour drive i was wondering what is the best way to have my turtle in the car? still in his littler pet carrier with water or what? i was just worried because i was thinking that he would float around and keep hitting the side of the tank when we hit a bump please tell me if you have any idea

When I transport turtles in cars I keep them in a petcarrier thing like you have but with hand warmer rapped in a moist paper towel. Then just rap up the carrier in a towel so he stays warm. Dont put him by the AC vent or anything. Make sure it dosnt get to hot though...

thanks a lot for help

Well sounds like your little guy has a respitory infection. I would raise the water temps to 80 and cover most of the top of the tank with something to keep the heat in, like a piece of plexiglass. What are you trying to feed him? Throw in some feeder fish (rosies) and try a pelleted food called Reptomin.
Good luck,
Chris

u might want to be careful because about a month ago i bought an alligator snapping turtle and when i put him in my tank he floated on top of the water i was shocked cuz i thought they wernt supposed to do that i thought they always stay submerged for long periods of time and come up for air every like 40-50 minutes.anyway i went on this forum to find out what was goin on and the next day i woke up and he was dead.so i went back t this forum and there was the info i needed but it was to late.the problem was that it was from the air flight for the turles shipment it bloated him up and like air got in his swim bladder and i guess it got so stressed and hungry because of him not wanting to eat he died.

feel free to ask me if this is what u think is happend to ur snapper.

ps.this is just info ive learned from forums so i could be wrong not that this is a bad forums or any other forums are not acurate u get my drift
