What is my female doing?

drunkmike Jul 25, 2005 04:00 PM

ok my girl is probably right around 4 weeks prego (3 weeks and 4 days to be exact) and for the past 2 days she has done nothing but run in circles, scratch at the glass on the side of the tank, dig in one far back left hand side corner and run the length of the tank all day long banging her head into the glass back and forth back and forth. Is she ready to lay or what? I have never seen her do this before. Ideas?

now she is running to one side, scratching the side trying to get out for a few minutes (making a really irritating sound with her nails may I add :D) then runs back to the side with the huge dirt/sand mound on it (under a heat lamp) sits there for a minute, licks the dirt then runs back and scratches again. What the heck is going on? I have NEVER known her to have this much energy and she has been doing it ALL day for the past 2 days now.. Is she ready to lay them? I wish she would hurry up and dig a hole and get it over with!

Sounds to me she is ready to lay her eggs. Prepare a proper egg laying bin, using a rubbermaid container filled with about 8"-12" of mixed sand/soil or vermiculate moistened with water so it clumps nicely and holds its shape. Place a heat bulb over one end to warm the sand, start a small hole and put your female in. She should lay her eggs right away or within a short period of time. You can also keep the egg laying tub in her cage, if there is room.

I first tried the rubbermaid bin and she REALLY did NOT like that so I opted to try and rig something up in her tank which basicly took over her basking side and made a huge mound for her over there with a lower watt bulb so it didnt dry everything out. But all day long she is like not interested in it at all. she just scratches the glass then runs back to the mound and basks for a bit. I started her a hole and well.. she just doesnt seem interested at all with it.. I dunno I guess I just have to leave her alone. I have all sides of her cage covered up for some privacy but I can still hear her running back and forth in there.

well maybe she isnt ready.. I just stuck some food in there for her, and she almost smashed her face into the side of the cage running for it.. LOL

This sucks being a first time "daddy" and not really knowing what is going on or what to look for.. *sigh*
