My first kingsnake clutch this year!

Sasheena Jul 25, 2005 06:52 PM

Well my first cal king clutch has finished hatching. This clutch was an unproven aberrant banded female by my proven high white male. She got egg bound after three eggs, prolapsed her oviduct after several days laying her fourth egg, and after I treated her for that she laid 4 more eggs successfully. Only one of the eggs laid after she became eggbound went full term, the rest rotted. That egg started to sweat after all the other eggs pipped and so I opened it and found this unfortunate dead baby:

These babies are HUGE! The first baby is a sort of wavy banded one, very nice:

This baby still has a bit of umbilicus dragging so I have it on damp paper towels. This one is the smallest baby, probably only 12 inches long. It has a very nice aztec stripe look to it!

This is the last one to hatch. It's not the best picture, the paper towel has "egg goobers" on it since I transferred the egg to the delicup before she fully hatched. I went ahead and use the snake measuring program and found that she's almost 16 inches long!

Congratulations!!! I know that's a good feeling! Those cal king eggs can get huge, eh? 16", WOW, THAT IS big!
I have 13 cal king eggs cooking, and most are about 2" long and over an inch thick!!! I'm expecting some big babies too!
By the way: I love that pattern on that last one! way to go and good luck with them!
