Phantasticus mating

johndoe10688 Jul 25, 2005 08:33 PM

As I am typing right now my phantasticus are mating for the 1st time i've ever seen. I've only gottrn 2 eggs from the b4 that were infertile. I just turned the light on an BAM they are locked up. How long does this last? They've been doing it for 10 min. I hope i didn't disturb them by turning the light on and my monitor(but i turned the brightness down).

When should i expect to see some eggs?

John

well, they could be locked up for an hour or so, cant tell you an exact time, but it will be loooooong.

and you cant be guaranteed fertile eggs after this. i've had females copulate before that have yet to put out fertile eggs.

good luck

This time of the year... don't expect fertile eggs. To them this is the winter. They don't breed like most other geckos, you know where you mimic the conditions that would cause them to breed at any time of the year and you'll be successful... Uroplatus seem to work on a time orientated clock. they know when they should based on their internal clock. just consider this practice for now. They are perfecting their technique.

You should begin to expect fertile eggs around november, and consistently if you have upside down's luck, until april/may. I personally have not been that lucky I've only hatched 4 satanics but have sat on atleast 10 now so... there you go. However with U.ebanaui... I'm pretty well versused, they are by far my favorite species.
