me and my nieghbor are obsessed with reptiles. between our two familys we have a baby leo, baby beardie, albino corn, western fox, smooth green snake, and the biggest garter i ahve seen. it is a girl and we are pretty sure she is preagnut. i will post a picturee later. we found her basking under a hot black whell barroll at a nice nieghbor. they have the best garters at there house. we have found a melenistic, her, and a red ringed. but to get to the point i feed her earth worms, ant toads and she eats a lot and poops. we keep her outside by the woods so it doesnt get too hot but she gets sun sometimes.we keep her in a plasic container about 30 or 40 gallons. it is newspaper substrate and a water dish and one hide and leaves. what should i do do have a better habitat and is there other feeding options thanks and please help.

To be honest, if your keeping her outside, the best place is back in the wild. Captive snakes, (and pet reptiles in general) do better indoors mainly because the environmental conditions can be controled better. Outside there are just to many factors that change every day, and the snake cannot compensate because it is stuck in a cage. If you can simulate the outside environment, inside, with a room temperature cage you will probably fair best. A small overhead basking area that reaches into the mid 80'sF is also needed.
