a guy in Austin Texas hatched an amel thayeri, pure thayeri.
BUT he lost the snake, somehow. I have a photo somewhere. I believe others here know the story of how it became DEAD, but it was so sad I blocked it from my memory. AFAIK he was never able to determine the parantage for some reason or another and never able to hatch another.

Another big name in Mexicana visits the forum. I enjoyed reading about your experiences and looking at your greeri field photos in Brian Hubb's book. Do you have any personal experiences herping for Mex-Mex or Thayeri?

Greg,
I've been trying to track down some missing images to make a post or two. I've got quite a few misplaced slides, and even more images that never got taken.

I'll see what I can do about finding them. The stories w/o photos really don't cut it.

I have heard that story before too Joe.
I think Aaron Mattson knows the story better than I.

It is sad, but what is even sadder is the emergence of the Thayeri X albino Ruthveni and Pastel kings. Some of these amelanistic crosses look way too much like pure thayeri. I sure hope the creators/sellers are honestly representing these.

Another thing that bothers me is if another thayeri breeder produces an amel thayeri he/she will have a hard time proving that they are pure do to the fact of the abundance of crosses out there.

I do not dislike these crosses as they are living jewels...Eye candy if you will. I just hope honesty prevails.

John,
Unfortunately thayeri X amel ruthveni crosses are already being sold as " albino thayeri" in the classifieds on ks.com. I e-mailed one breeder that was advertising albino thayeri and he admitted they were crosses, but was angered by the suggestion that he was mis-representing the snakes. It seems that those of us who want "pure" animals have to do quite a bit work to ensure the pedigree of the animals we are buying. With almost no wild collected animals entering the US in over 20 years, the chances of getting a less than pure animal increases every year. It would be nice if Mexico would allow some very limited commercial collecting to start some new "clean" bloodlines. I'm looking forward to outbreeding my males to my 2 F-1 females from Tim Gebhard's wild caught snake. I really like what Dan V. produced last year by crossing his white line to one of Tim's F-1 females.

Greg,

I have one from Dan V. too that looks simalar to that one. Mine is an 03 model from his white line.

I heard the same story about the amel thayeri back in the mid to late 90's. I for one would really love to see that pic of the amel thayeri if Joe Forks can find it.

Didn't David W. from Mountainkings claim to have hatched out an anerythristic pure thayeri a couple of years back? If that is true it doesn't seem like it generated much interest?

Here's a pic of my Dan V. white line male. He's actually much more yellow looking than this pic shows

That is just a spectacular snake. You guys are killing me.

What I know is from a brief blurb in the old Captive Breeding Magazine's "What's New?" column. The picture showed an amelanistic leonis phase hatchling and had a short text saying little more than the breeder hatched it out of unexpected hets.

Hi Joe

Wow! That animal looks better than what I remembered. I remember seeing a pic of that animal when kingsnake.com was in it's infancy around the mid to late 90's. Is is sad we never got to see more of them. Thanks for sharing.
