what is the best filter for a turtle tank? i have heard good things about fluval, but not much else. can a canister work on a turtle tank? i was told that the water needs to be a certain depth. any advice or ideas would be great.

Canister filters are the best for turtle tanks. But, when using a canister filter the tank must be above the filter (on a stand of somesort.. Other wise it will not work. Depending on the size of your tank, I would reccomend either a FilStar or a Magnum. There is one canister filter out there that hangs on the back of your tank like a power filter. Its called the
HOT Magnum 250. I have one and it works great. Canister filters are not cheap though. Most run in the $50-$150 range.

see i was looking at canisters until a pet store guy told me they won't work with shallow water...so what you're saying is that it's just the old siphon rule and it'll work as long as the canister is below the tank? also i've been seeing alot of good things about fluval as it pertains to turtles does anyone have any experience with them?

Yes, the tank must be above the filter. What size tank do you have and how many turtles? Fluvals are alright but FilStars are better. And whatever you buy, dont buy from a petstore. You will get raped on the prices. Buy from here...

I have a fluval submersable filter and it works pretty well but i'm planning on getting some sort of canister filter because the turtles waste is too large to filter with the fluval.
