Collard Lizard Habitat

Boost Jul 26, 2005 09:21 PM

I am looking at purchasing a breeding pair of collard lizards after some research and seeing them in action in a recommended lizard pet store.

I have a couple of questions for those with the knowledge out there.

1. In decorating the habitat if I choose to have plants within the habitat which plants can be used safely??

2. What type of rocks do people use??

3. What type of substrate is best??

Well that's about it, I am looking forward to seeing what people recommend.

Hello,
It is good to hear of another person with collareds. I'm sorry, but I'm kind of new too and can't help much. Good luck!

Welcome to collareds,
Morgan

Well as far as substrate alot of us use WASHED playsand you buy it that was (washed) from home depot /Lowes garden supply.
50 lb. bag for about 4.99 It's the kind used in childrens sand boxes.

I use alot of slate in piles, but rocks I have always found what I need in my yard or neighbors, that did not want them there always soak in the bathtub or some tub , can use a 3 percent bleach water and then let air for a day! I have even scrubbed them with comet/ ajax, and let dry over night.

Plants are tricky and evenually I took mine out. They jump all over them and bang them and they seem to get scraggly fast.
Has to be plants that can tolerate dryness and HEAT !
But here are a few I have tried .

Snake plants
Haworthia
Aloe
chicks and hens
Jade plant

Hope you enjoy your new collareds when ya get them. They are great little lizsards. Post some pics too, for us to see ,
Nice to have you!

The plant in the second picture at front is very resistant, good choice.

Setup is interresting too.
