Baby veiled diet

specialk6952 Jul 26, 2005 10:46 PM

I was wondering what kind of variety of food I can feed baby veiled chams. These are baby babies....only about 2 inches long...not including the tail. I know they need a variety but I'm not sure what other foods items they need besides crickets. Thank you.

You can use fruitflies or possibly small houseflies. Don't catch "wild" houseflies, get them from a breeder like Grubco or Arbico. Check feeder suppliers for the fruitflies. There are 2 species, one larger than the other (I can't remember which is which!).

Thanks, I was checking out a supplier that sells flightless fruitflies. Thinking about getting some of them and also what is your opinion on mealworms? The same supplier has ones that are small enough for the chams to eat but not sure if it would have any ill effects on them. The chams (Yoda, Obi, & Annie) are now eating small crickets that are between 1/4-1/2" big.

Mealworms are OK as long as they are not the main diet. They are relatively hard to digest as the have a hard chitin shell. It's best to try and use the newly shed ones that are soft.
