>>two years ago i hatched out a black racer and named it cartmen only to find out yesterday that it is realy cartmina. i came home to find five eggs in her cage there is no way for them to be fertile but will this be a yearly event or just ocasional. please respond.
It's possible that it may be a yearly event if she is currently experiencing this with no outside stimulation such as a male racer in the room or having put her with another snake (such as another female racer) when she has never been around other snakes previously. Often infertile eggs are reabsorbed if no fertilization occurs rather than finishing the process and being laid. One main concern with the laying of infertile eggs is the chances for egg binding increases quite a bit and if the eggs do become stuck can lead to the death of an animal. I had a corn snake die last year from re-occuring egg binding problems from infertile eggs even with a vet helping to treat. I have an eastern kingsnake who is currently trying to pass infertile eggs and actually prolapsed part of the oviduct....another emergency trip to the vet.
