It's shorthand for specifying the sex of an animal. The first digit pertains to males, the second to females, and the third to animals of unknown sex. For example: 1.0 is 1 male and 0 females; 1.1 is 1 male and 1 female; 0.1.1 is 0 males, 1 female, and 1 animal of unknown sex.
