Oh no! HELP! Beardie laying eggs now.. Backwards!!!

drunkmike Jul 27, 2005 06:08 PM

my girl has finally dug a hole that she is happy with, but the only thing is that she is instead of being "backed in" to it, she has dug a very very skinny "tunnel" almost and went into it head first and is laying eggs at the enterance! LOL! She is so deep in, that I'm afraid that its going to collapse on her because she is laying/digging/laying/digging still.. Is it ok to bother her while she is laying, or should I not do anything for a while?

I see about 9-10 eggs and the tip of her tail.. her back legs are still going at it pushing sand. Will she come out when she is done? I'm just scared she will fall asleep in there and it will collapse as the sand/dirt drys out.. ideas?

I would just let her lay her eggs the way she wants. Collect what eggs you can easily reach and put them into an incubator. Just keep an eye on her so if the tunnel does collapse, you can dig her out right away.

Use a mister spray bottle with warm water and CAREFULLY (as not to disturb her) wet as much as you can so that it will not collapse when it dries. Do not use too much water.

Ask someone else if this would be ok before you do it, because I have no experience in breeding. But I spent many a days in the sandbox as a child...
