Feeding Question

ShaunDuke Jul 16, 2003 11:35 AM

I was wondering how much and how often you all feed your Leo's. I was a little concerned with my new one Alwen, maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm the daddy and I get worried. She didn't eat for two days, had one yesterday, then wouldn't eat today. Should I be feeding her at night? Offering her a small supply of mealworms all day long in a little dish? Or perhaps the mealworms I am feeding her fill her up pretty good. I have read that Leo's will eat 4-5 days out of a week and then stop and start up again, but the my Leo Melly eats all the time, practically whenever I offer it to her. So let me know how you guys go about feeding your Leos. I'm not used to this happening with my Leo Melly, so I am a little confused.

Dont worry unless she is losing weight. What else do you offer them besides mealies? Sometimes leos get tired of eating the same thing. Try crickets, superworms, butterworms/wax worms (only as an occasional treat).
Leos are very picky eaters. My male will eat 10 mealies at one time sometimes, then eat 1 every few hours or not eat for a day or two. Just they are stubborn. Just try variety if you can, and try to keep aleast 5 mealies in a little bowl at all times, if they eat it put more in. Its not going to hurt if you leave mealies in there at all times. Try to food crix and other stuff at night since thats when they are more active.

Leos prefer eating at night since they are nocturnal...they don't like to be woken up or disturbed while they are resting during the day. Offer food in the evenings and if she doesn't accept it, leave 10 mealies in her food dish in case she gets hungry later on in the night.
