Feeding baby queretaro question

Fleck Jul 28, 2005 04:21 PM

Hello
Two days ago I received a baby Queretaro king. The breeder told me to feed it in the deli cup it came in. He is currently housed in a 10 gallon tank .
I intend to feed him tomorrow evening. When I place him in the deli cup with the pinkie should I add anything like paper towel for cover or some aspen from his tank or just snake and pinkie nothing else ?
I ofcourse will put the cup back in the secure tank overnight . He is a very active little guy at night and looks like wants to eat.
Thanks.
Fleck

I would go with a plain cup. Avoid aspen in the feeding cup, it might ingest some. Good luck.

Thanks. I asked about adding aspen or paper towel because he is a nervous little guy and thought a bare cup would stress him but will go with a bare deli cup and cover the tank.
I have 2 other snakes rosy boa, hognose both purchased as young adults both ate mice . This is my first little guy .

The snake ate within the hour. I was suprised that a plain cup without substrate or any type of "cover" in it like a paper towel sheet would work.
The breeder I got him from (Robert Cox) told me to use that method but I wasnt sure if I needed to put anything in the cup.
Thanks for the info I was suprised how fast he ate.
In time can they be weaned from the deli cup method? My other two non kingsnakes I just lay a piece of hard plastic sheet on 1/4 of the tank substrate with a dead mouse on it .
They grab it there .

Thanks
Fleck

Glad to see that Peace River Ruthie eating for you.....
I don't think Robert would have sold him to you if it wasn't feeding like a pig.....
Good choice there Fleck,
Post some pics whenever you get the chance.

Yes he told me he was eating and eating well and he is very honest guy. He told me to use the deli cup to feed him but I wasnt sure if it needed substrate, etc in the cup .
Its not easy being anal -retentive lol. Good thing I took your advice to and put him in a 10 gallon as my original plan was a 30 long which I had bought.
He is doing very well and has plenty of room in time as he gets bigger he will go in the 30 as I enjoy giving them room.
I havent handled him yet and since he ate tonight I will a day or so after he defecates for a few minutes.
