My friend is moving and has to sell his collection of snakes and lizards. We have decided the best way to do this may be via the internet.
Neither of us have ever shipped live animals before and dont know much about it. I have received reptiles via the mail many times, so i get the general idea of packaging. but the rest is lost on me. So, yet again, i come to you for advice!
1. What is the best packing method? I have acess to styrofoam boxes and lids with fitting cardboard boxes at work...it we put the snakes or lizards in a pillowcase, put them in the styrofoam box with some holes punched in it, would that be sufficient? Do there need to be holes in the cardboard as well? What is the best way to package?
2. As far as finding a delivery company, i have heard that many of them will not ship live animals. Which ones will? Do i just call the company and arrange a day to ship out the animal? Do I go straight to the company or do i go via the post office? What rules and regulations must i follow?
3. As far as shipping and handling, i know its customary to have the buyer pay for it. How do i know what its going to cost in advance so the buyer can pay for it when they pay in advance for the animal? If i tell the weight to the delivery company will they tell me the shipping and handling fees? If not, how do i find out?
Im really confused about all this! If anyone has the paticience to walk me through it i would be REALLY appreciative.
Thanks so much,
Mim
