leucistic???

why is it so hard to find 100% leucistic beardies these days... i have a leuc/snow male and he is ready to breed. i need a female.

thats because leucistics dont exist. Never did. You just have a very white animal. Look on the old boards and see the giant discussion over genetics and leucism. Its a good hours read, but it will help answer a lot of question.

Now, I read that thread and I don't recall it being proven or disproven that they did or didn't exist. According to the breeders I've talked to, they do. If they aren't true leucsistics, how do you account for the fact that they breed true to punnets square theories? No other "color phase" does that... I'm not trying to re-open the debate, but you really shouldn't make flat black and white statements like "because they don't exist" when nothing is decided 100%.

I think that perhaps some bearded dragon owners have an odd definition of the word 'snow'. That's my only opinion on the subject. You may also have an odd definition of the word 'leucisim'. To me, a snow animal displays both albino and anerytheristic traits, and a leucisitc animal completely lacks all pigment and pattern, like it was dipped in white-out. This of course does not mean that there isn't a trait in beardies that one could call 'simple recessive whiteness'.
