Building my own cham cage

specialk6952 Jul 28, 2005 10:34 PM

me and my fiance are building our own cage for my chams and I was wondering if latex paint should be avoided or if it's ok to paint the wood with it? I don't wanna put something on the wood that's gonna be toxic for them. Thanks!

Latex is OK. Choose a latex paint that dries to be waterproof and is safe for baby furniture.

The screen cage is going to be something like 4'x4'x4'. It will for sure be 4 feet tall....but I might not make it that deep or wide. How big should chams be before you move them to an enclosure this large?

You could always build the big cage and partition off a smaller part of it for a little cham. It's kind of hard to say when to move them. Every cham is different. If your baby is bold, confident and an active hunter the larger cage won't bother him too much. Put his basking area, UV, and food closer together and space it out as he explores and uses more of the cage.

Right now I have 3 chams (1 female and 2 males). We're giving the female to my fiance's aunt because she has veiled and I know she'll be able to take care of her, also she wants to try to breed them. Anyway, these are baby babies....they are only about 2 inches long(not including the tail). So I know they would have a hard time finding the crickets I would let loose into the cage.
