Is my baby iguana normal?

IgMan Jul 28, 2005 11:29 PM

Hi, im a new iguana owner and ive had my iguana (Iggy) for a week now. i was just checking to see if hes ok cause his skin seemed to change color a bit. it went from green to green with some brown spots(one or 2 individual scales in a few spots on his back) and some spikes are brown and he has dark brown rusty splotches on his lower neck upper body.i dont know if these were here before. i have a 100 watt incandescant .im buying the UVB bulb tomorrow (maybe its the absence of that.he should be fine without it for a week right?) is that too high? the highest hes been to the light is about 5 inches. i hope its not burns or disease. i will include my gallery and a photo for you. please say hes ok. hes only 6 months and i love him. those images are done with my webcam. more to come. to see the pictures of his skin, follow the url. this is just a full body shot. hes a little scared.

From the pictures (try to compress them a bit next time) he seems healthy and normal.

Lack of UV will affect their color, and most importantly, their health. So yeah, the sooner u get one the better.

Proper diet is also a factor.

5 inches is WAY to close. 8 inches is a good distance from the highest basking spot. The UV will get his skin greener.
Also, stress and cold change the color of an iguana.

But from the looks of it, he seems fine! It is normal for igs to have some coloring where u described. They are not 100% bright green.

Let us know how it's doing.

Good good.
By the way, make sure "his" name can be easily converted to a femminine name. It's too young to know for sure the gender, hehehe...
