UTH with Rheostat...

pspguy Jul 16, 2003 12:48 PM

As most of you know, I am using a UTH and 75w Infrared Light. My temp stays at 88-90 degrees on the warm end with the UTH plugged into the outlet and my light in the Rheostat. If you plug the UTH into a rheostat with it on full, will it heat up warmer then it will in an outlet? I would like to ditch my infrared in the daytime, but my UTH alone only gets that side of the tank to about 82-84 degrees.

THanks

Jeff

That's weird that the UTH doesnt get warm enough by itself. I know when I had mine just plugged in the wall it got WAY too hot, so I got a dimmer for it.

I dont know if a rheostat would make it warmer that just in the wall. It doesnt seem like it would to me, but I'm not sure

Most likely, if the temps are like that without the lamp, then the substrate temp is over 90 which is not good for the leo. UTH's were meant to heat the floor of the tank. Put the rheostat on the UTH, most likely the UTH is overheating the floor.
